Kirsten Dunst was left upset and exasperated when she testified at the trial of a man accusing of stealing her handbag, insisting she was made to look like a "stupid actress" when she took the stand. James Jimenez was accused of raiding the "Spider-Man" star's suite at the SoHo Grand Hotel in New York in 2007 while the actress was filming "How to Lose Friends & Alienate People" with Simon Pegg and Megan Fox.
Jimenez was found guilty of trespassing last year and he headed back to court this summer to face a retrial on a burglary charge. Dunst testified during the trial and Jimenez was later found guilty and sentenced to four years in prison.
But the actress endured a harrowing experience on the stand when defense attorneys questioned her about a stash of marijuana which was found in a purse belonging to Dunst's assistant, Liat Baruch, which was also taken in the raid. And Dunst reveals she found the experience extremely uncomfortable, claiming the lawyers attempted to make her look "stupid".
She tells BlackBook magazine, "It became such a spectacle. It should have been so simple - put the guys who jacked (stole) our stuff in jail. But then I had to go to court, where I was made to look like a stupid actress."
